MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang is not worried about the possibility that businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles will be implicating President Benigno Aquino III in the pork barrel scam.
Presidential Communication Operations Office (PCOO) head Herminio Coloma Jr. said the government remains committed to know the truth regarding the misuse of lawmakers' Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
"Our focus is on the search for truth and justice regardless of what certain individuals would like to do or will plan to do. That's why we have sounded the call for our people to stay focused on the search for truth and justice," Coloma said at a televised press briefing.
Malacañang's statements came after Aquino expressed belief that those charged in connection with the PDAF scam are now trying to muddle the issue and delay the investigation and prosecution by making everyone look guilty.
"Sigurado tayo at kayo narinig niyo na rin siguro, strategy ng ibang akusado —ano 'yung phrase— 'bring the whole house down.' Pare-pareho na lang tayong may kasalanan, etcetera; guluhin ang usapan," Aquino said.
The President said this after several Napoles' lists of officials involved in the PDAF scam surfaced last week.
Coloma added that some quarters may be trying to spread misleading information and to "dissipate" the case build-up efforts in the remaining years of the Aquino administration.
But amid the new allegations that are dragging new names into the multibillion-peso controversy, Coloma maintained that evidence will lead the direction of the government's probe.
"The President reiterated that the government is committed to pursue justice through the build up of solid evidence that meets the standards of judicial proof," Coloma said.
Last month, the Office of the Ombudsman said it has found probable evidence to file plunder cases against Napoles and Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr.
Justice Secretary Leila De Lima has submitted to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee the list of other officials in the scam that Napoles herself prepared.
The Napoles lists that were reported in the media identified more senators and officials, including Cabinet secretaries, who allegedly had transactions with the businesswoman.
