They're Baaaaaaack!

By John Cruzoe

Europeans are now being practical. They are going back to basics. Old single and dual band phones are on the rise. Post your old Nokia or Motorola on www.BIZCHUM.com and you may find yourself £1000 richer.

Europeans now prefer the primitive functions: call and text. Smartphone manufacturers might see a dip on their sales beacause of this sudden mindset. Who needs internet, GPS, Facebook and even google while on the run. (I know I do.)

There could be several factors on why Europeans tend to return on using these old pre-smartphones gadgets:

1. Durability

There is no doubt that old phones are more durable than smartphones. During the day, old phones need not be dressed with accessories. Unlike today, aside from the smartphone market, a different kind of market emerged; smartphone accessories. These accessories protect your gadgets from the elements and from falls. It goes to show that smartphones are easily damaged if not taken cared of.

Old phones differ in so many ways. When it falls, its ok. When it gets banged, its ok. When it gets stolen, its ok. Considering the prices of old phones now, maybe the last premise does not apply.

2. Practicality

Technology has somehow changed our ways of living. Smartphones gave us a lot of things that tend to over use our brains. Apps, games, internet, chat, videos and whatnot. It takes away our boredom when life lacks variety.  It enhances our level of brain activity in times when we really do not need to use our mind excessively.  Thus, it gives us more stress.

Europeans might have realized that simplicity will make our lives longer.  It will also stabilze our sanity.  Make a call then think about other things later, could be another reason why. One thing is for sure, they want to KISS. Keep It Simple Silly!

3. Inexpensive subscription

Obviously, monthly subscription rates would be far less cheaper with fewer functions to use. That being said, I now know why Europeans are going back to old phones.

Honestly, these three points are valid.  However, nothing is stopping technology now. People
are hooked. Looking at the demographics, the younger generation would prefer the smartphones because it connects them faster to anybody via different platforms. Information is also easily acquired.  Also, having a smartphone can be seen as a status symbol.

In conclusion, this is a tug of war between NEED vs WANT.
