MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan on Monday morning issued a resolution ordering the drafting of the arrest warrant against Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, who is facing a plunder charge over the pork barrel fund scam.
Associate Justice Roland Jurado, presiding justice of the anti-graft court's Fifth Division, found sufficient grounds for probable cause to proceed with the trial of Estrada, who is accused by the Ombudsman of pocketing P183-million in Priority Development Assistance Funds kickbacks.
In ordering the senator's arrest, the magistrates dismissed Estrada's motion for judicial determination requesting oral arguments on the validity of the plunder and 11 graft cases against him.
Covered by the impending arrest warrant are Estrada's former aide Pauline Labayen, Budget Undesecretary Mario Relampagos, several other government officials and employees and private respondents led by detained businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles.
Estrada has earlier vowed to turn himself in before the Sandiganbayan and has requested the Philippine National Police to refrain from serving the impending arrest warrant.
Estrada is expected to be brought to the Custodial Center at the police headquarters in Camp Crame to join his colleague, Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr. in detention.
The son of the former President Joseph Estrada said that there will be no fanfare in his surrender and unlike that of Revilla's last Friday.
