PILI, Philippines—The provincial government of Camarines Sur evacuated Tuesday some 80,000 persons in the northeastern coastal towns of  Caramoan, Presentacion, Garchitorena, Tinambac and Lagonoy as Typhoon “Glenda” approached. The typhoon  is expected to cross the province after making landfall in the neighboring provinces of Albay and Sorsogon.
Governor Miguel Luis Villafuerte, head of the provincial disaster risk reduction management council, said Tuesday local authorities started preemptive evacuation on Monday of families living within 100 meters from the shore.
He said disaster response lines and networks in all 1,036 villages have been activated while some 1,000 sacks of rice were preposition in the province’s northeastern coast for the evacuees.
Villafuerte said the provincial government had activated 11 satellite operation centers stationed in district hospitals in the province with seven responders and three medical personnel in each team. The centers were on red alert and would be manned continuously until Wednesday night.
He said the Army had committed additional personnel for the satellite operation centers, as well as trucks and heavy equipment to beef up what the provincial government had.
Villafuerte said the province had enough trucks and heavy equipment to clear landslides that could block roads.
