DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The truth will set people free. This was president Aquino’s comment yesterday on claims by Vice President Jejomar Binay that the Senate investigation on the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall parking building is politically motivated.
The President arrived here yesterday to address at least 500 members of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) at the SMX Center in SM Lanang Premier.
Aquino apparently does not want himself involved in the investigation currently conducted by the Senate Blue Ribbon committee.
“(Maybe) at the end of the day, the truth will set us all free,” he told reporters.
He said he does not have anything else to say about the ongoing Senate probe.
“I am primarily relying on the information that are reported in the papers,” he said. “I have nothing to add, at this point, as to the truth or falsehood of the accusations against the Vice President.”
The President likewise pointed out he does not have personal knowledge of the accusations against the Vice President and that he is only informed of the developments in the Senate hearing with what comes out especially in the print media.
“Do I have knowledge as to the veracity of the accusation against the Vice President? I do not have personal knowledge,” said Aquino whose family is a close friend of the Binays.
The three accusers of Vice President Binay in the alleged overpriced parking building went to the Department of Justice (DOJ) yesterday to seek witness protection. – With Delon
